Pencils, backpacks, sneakers, the list for those sending children back to school is long and expensive. This year is looking to be the most costly yet according to the National Retail Federation, “Families with children in elementary through high school plan to spend $848.90, $59 more than last year, on average on back-to-school items. Total back-to-school spending is expected to reach $37.1B, up from $33.9B last year and an all-time high in the survey’s history.”
At De Rigo Rem, we recognize the challenges families face.
An annual exam should be part of every family’s back-to-school plans this year and every year. Aside from general eye health, an annual exam before the start of the school year can help catch any vision issues that may impede the learning process. In a recent article in Invision Magazine entitled Call the Nurse, they reported the stain that school systems are under to provide routine vision screenings to students. The article states that according to the AOA, “up to 75% of school screenings miss vision problems.” This shocking statistic should prompt caregivers to schedule an annual back-to-school eye exam with a local care provider and not rely on in-school vision screenings.
